Roses smell different based on provenance, season, colour etc. However, the associations with the scent of a fresh rose are surprisingly uniform across cultures. Rose almost always evokes feelings of joy, calm, convention, bliss and beauty. That makes it a hugely reliable material for a perfumer because you can be certain of the emotions evoked.
